Flood waters forcing more roads closures

Flood waters are again forcing roads closures in northwest Missouri.

Crews from the Missouri Department of Transportation closed both lanes of U.S. Route 159 from Rulo, Nebraska to Route 111 and Route 111 from U.S. Route 159 to Route 118 after floodwaters from previous storms once again began to rise over the roadway.

District Maintenance and Traffic Engineer for MoDOT's Northwest District Tanya Lohman says continued flooding may occur.

"There is a little bit more rain probably still coming in this next week.  And then of course the rain that we had over the weekend will eventually get down to the Missouri River as well.  So we may have continued flooding for a couple days until we can get all that water down through the system."

Lohman encourages travelers to download the MoDOT Traveler Information app to their smart devices so they can be prepared when roads are flooded.

"You can see whatever roads are closed to flooding.  So before you leave to go on a trip or to take any journey, pull the app up and check to see what roads are closed so you can alter your route if needed."

MoDOT urges everyone to never enter a water-covered roadway or drive around barricades as just a few inches of flood water can force vehicles off the roadway.
